X5 with trailer?

Anybody pulled a popup camper with an E53? I don't have a hitch now.

I tow a 5700 lb caravan (probably known as a travel trailer to you). No problems at all.

No worries cobber. Hope the trip is a good one. Long weekend down here in the deep (soon to be dark) south of Tassie this weekend, so we'll be hooking up the van and heading off to find somewhere to light a fire and get the camp oven on.

I reckon the X5 wouldn't know a popup camper was there.

I am getting ready to start pulling with my X, and plan on keeping the trailer around 4000lbs UVW that will give a little "breathing room" if you will. I have searched around and around for an OEM hitch and finally found one at my buddys wrecking yard, I am going to go down and pull all the required components next Monday. I have not seen anywhere where you can get the oem hitch new for a while. I work for a outfit that does hitches/5th wheels for RV's and in looking at what is out there aftermarket for out rigs is pathetic. If you can do so, try to find OEM, good luck!

Towing stuff is no problem at all.
The E32 750i is 1900kg/4188lbs and the trailer is around 600kg/1322 lbs. The X5 is honestly the best car I've ever towed anything with.

Not yet, but I plan to later this summer. We have an older Palomino Colt pop-up that we'll be dragging out to Michigan and back again for some beach time.

Like others have said, the X5 is a capable towing machine; I've used it for towing various trailers around town, and a U-Haul box trailer for a bit farther out of town, moving my kids. Not a problem. Fuel mileage suffers a bit more than I'd like, but that would happen no matter what you drive.

Your big concern as I see it is the lack of a hitch; the OE kit seems to be pretty hard to find. Some of the cheaper aftermarket hitches bolt up to the unibody and the rear subframe, which is a terrible idea; avoid them. The OE wiring kit is much easier than the hitch to find at dealers; go with that instead of anything aftermarket or universal. You don't want to be hacking up any part of your wiring harness.
