Comments on this deal?

Hi, I'm really interested in getting a used X5. I found one and want to hear what you guys think about it. I will see the car over the weekend. I did research online and think it's a pretty good deal.

2001 X5 4.4i with about 65000 miles. Sport package (a must). CD changer. Blue exterior and grey/dark grey two tone interior. Second owner. No accident/mechanical problem according to the seller. No Xenon. No Navigation (no big deal as we use the Garmin portable unit). And just the "regular" sport seat. Clean inside/out from the pictures. For some reasons, I kinda like the blue color even though the resale value seems lower.

Price is about $23000. When I searched online, even 2001 3.0i with same mileage sells higher than that...of course kbb/Nada prices are much higher and they are not really good reference points. But on edmunds, this price is slightly higher than trade-in.

I'm thinking if I get this, even when the new design comes out, it should sustain some depreciation hit...

What do you guys think? thanks a lot!!

I got mine about a year ago w/ 48K on the clock, Xenon, Nav, sport package, 19"s, everything but the roof and heated reclining rear seats, for almost $32K. That sounds like a good deal on yours. Just beware that you should plan on keeping her for awhile to even think about getting something worthwhile back from her.

Good luck on it and :xoutpost:

If we decide to get this, we are planning to keep her for a few years. It'll be my wife's daily car and she doesn't care about new designs much. As long as it doesn't have too many problems (hopefully), she's happy.

I have an 01 4.4, with 50K. It's been a trouble free ride. Yours sounds nicely optioned. I think it would have Xenon low beams.

Good luck

I also hope it'll have Xenon...added bonus.

I just ran the carfax and it shows 2 owners. 1st owner leased the vehicle in 2000. When he returned it, the dealer sold it through an auction to the second owner. I'm a little worried about cars from auctions...

I'm with you on this. When we got our X5 few years back, one of our friends who owns a dealership took my dad and I to the auction to look at X5s. Man, 1 and 2 year old BMWs were not in good condition there! I talked to our service advisor about this once. He said that BMW dealers usually send lease return vehicles that they can't resell to the auction; meaning they aren't in good enough condition for them to put up for sale at the dealer. Sometimes they're ok, just be careful. There's plenty of 2001s out there, so take your time in looking for the right one for you.

Thanks for the advise. What should I look for on auction cars? How can I tell if they got beat up?

The best thing to do is take the vehicle to a BMW dealership and ask them to do an Inspection. It costs about $100-$150. When we got our X5, it was 1.5 years old with around 30k miles so it was still under warranty, but still wanted to know whether it was in overall good condition. It was being sold at a Jaguar dealership. The money you spend to get this done could save you many thousand down the road.

good idea. I'll probably bring it to the dealership. How long will that usually take? And how can they know if it's been abused? well...I guess they should know more than me at least.

Sounds good to me. Got mine 7 months ago '01 4.4 SP Nav 42K CD changer for $30K. I've added a bunch of mods since then and love it. As far as I'm concerned, this (and the new X5 I'm ordering) are the last cars I'll buy.
