Rattle when put into drive while idleing

Noticed since I've had the car a rattle. It's not evident or certainly not as prevelant when in park but it is when it's in drive at idle. A little revs and the noise disappears. It sounds from under the gear box /rear of the engine but never been able to put my finger on it (not braved being under the car while in drive). Any ideas? Gear box ? Chain tensioner?

Might be a loose heat shield or something like that.

If you don't want to get under the car while it is in drive take it in to a mechanic who is paid to be brave.

Not a good project to pursue shortly after honestly answering the "do these jeans make my butt fat question"...

Does it sound like marbles in a tin can - sort of? Mine does it too and I'm thinking it's the timing chain guide.

Yeah when my timing guides started to go the sound was like an alternator bearing was failing. Check the simple things first like the heat shield. Also make sure that the element in the catalytic has not started to break up thus creating your rattle.
