Homelink training from a dip switch remote
Has anyone successfully paired a generic dip switch remote to their homelink buttons? I have read that Canadian vehicles are a bit different for programming but I've tried it to no avail as well. And do you need to do the "training of homelink" buttons while parked near the garage door opener? I can see this as being foolish as the Canadian method says you have to press your fixed code remote button ev ery two seconds and this makes the garage door opener go crazy. Soooooo frustrating. I paired/coded my x5 to our homeowner security gate for our private drive. It was a dip switch remote system.

The place I'm living in is just 4-5 months temporary until my house Reno's are done but would still be nice to get this working. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

I just followed the instructions from the owners manual on pairing the remote. I was not parked near the security gate, but did use the remote for the security gate to code/program the X5 homelink system. I think that you should look at a homelink video on youtube as to how to program the remote in any cars with a homelink system. My Infiniti G35 is also programmed for the security gate for our gated community.

Here's a link to a 2009 thread over on Bimfest where forum member Bluebee was going round-n-round with programming her UGDO.
Around post #13 she goes into detail about programming the "gate" after finally (successfully) programming the garage doors. Not sure if it will help...but it may give some ideas...good luck. ![]() DIY for programming the Homelink Garage Door Opener (GDO) in the BMW E39 - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums

I've tried using the UGDO remote to program my homelink when I was no where near the garage and also when I was at the garage. Obviously no success. I've watched so many videos and read so many websites (audi/chargers/jeeps/tesla...) about any homelink programming using a dip switch remote... and a lot of ppl have problems it seems with this old style yet some get it to work easy. I was watching the Canadian version of the HomeLink video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkzolU1yzqI ) last night and tried so many times to program this. I'm only in this home temporarily but would still be nice to get this working so I can give the remote back to owner. on another note... in my garage, I have new Liftmasters with security 2.0 so I need to buy a HomeLink Compatability bridge to get that working... I have my Liftmaster garage door opener remote attached to my center console so its nice and close to the factory buttons, but would be nice to get factory buttons working too.

If you have a DIP switch remote you must have a very old garage or gate opener.

my uncle in law's 2010 Silverado was able to sync his homelink with the remote tho, so I'm thinking my X5 should be able to as well.

Programming a Fixed-Code Device (Majority of units made prior to 1996)
These devices have internal dip-switches located near the battery of your remote. Clear out anything previously programmed into the in-car system from the factory by holding down on the 2-outside buttons simultaneously, until the in-car LED starts flashing rapidly. This may take up to a minute. (In most cases, the key should be on auxilary, and/or the car door must be shut). Press and hold the in-car button you want to use to operate your garage door while simultaneously pressing and holding the button to your hand held remote until the LED on the in-car remote flashes rapidly. Test the in-car remote by pressing the button you chose to operate your door. When the door operates your in-car remote is programmed.
