Pixelmania

A tree attacked my 2001 in a windstorm causing fatal damage to the old girl. She was a good one. The radio in my 2002 has serious pixel loss.
Mr Bentley says some scary stuff about reprogramming the radio with computer if I swap it. Is this true or is the radio code all I need?
Thanks
Mike

By radio do you mean mid or nav screen. I replaced my mid with no coding necessary. If you have a mid, the radio is in the CD player.

The one under the rotary dial? It's not a screw, it's a cam.

Its a PAIN when the previous owner strips it out trying to unscrew it.

The "radio" is just the remote. You should be able to swap them. (I hope so I'm about to try the same to fix pixel problem)

I think that's a 'T10'. People will think it's hex and might round it off. It's pretty hard to strip a torx screw though.

I have a bunch of odd sizes of torx for working on computers and phones (like 7, 9 etc. Not sure if I have 11, but you can usually get a rounded torx out by going one size up and tapering the tip with a Dremel so you can hammer it into the screw.

The one in our 528i was rounded smooth. Nightmare to work with.

Thanks to all, I’ll get a T10.
Can always count on this forum’s “no such thing as a stupid question” mentality!

I will be removing my mid soon to work on the pixel problem. I'm curious how is have solved the round smooth problem but I've made 5-point pentalobe screwdrivers in the past to open laptops or iPhones. I would have probably taken an old screwdriver and cut the end into a "screw extractor" shape possibly drilled the smooth T10 into a deeper hole to get a better grip. I've solved much harder broken screw problems:

When modifying my slide for my .40 Cal to hold a red dot scope, I broke a tap off deep inside! That might have been the hardest save I've done.
