2004 X5 Brakes - Any special Tools needed?

Greetings to all!

2004 X5 3.0i, nothing fancy, no air bags etc.

I am about to replace my all my brakes with BMW Genuine parts (Pelican parts) Pads, Rotors and Both Sensors.

Do I need any special tools at all?

Anything else I should know?

Thank you all in Advance!

E53 brakes are really basic, no special tools needed.

The one and only "special" tool is a 7mm Allen (hex) wrench or bit socket, to undo the slide pins.

Pretty easy to not have that tool, so I figured I'd mention it.

Just remember that for bleeding....

You must have a bidirectional reader like Foxwell NT-510 or INPA, etc. to activate the ABS block or you will never get it bled.

That is indeed true, although he won't need to bleed the brakes after changing them.

I've yet to be able to fully bleed my brakes using ISTA after SEVERAL rounds.

Tons of DIYS on the internet, you can search for them.

Basically, a few tips...

1. The X5 is heavy, so I use 2 jack stands for safety. I posted photos in bimmerfest E39 forum...

2. Rotor retainig bolt is 6-mm. Here can use an L-shaped key.

3. The sliding bolt is 7-mm. I find the socket being much better than the L-shaped key. Clean the inside of the bolt with a tiny screwdriver bc if you don't,
the 7-mm socket may not "bite" properly ---> Stripped bolt!

4. As long as you don't allow the reseroir to go empty during bleeding, no need for any special tool such as INPA, Foxwell and all that jazz...
