Unused mystery connector

Noticed this plugged and secured connector on the left inner fender just ahead of the shock tower.

Any ideas what it's for?

I think that is either for the reactive power steering or coolant level sensor. You could probably find out for sure by checking wiring diagram.

Not certain but could it be for the ambient temperature sensor?

Interesting. My '06 doesn't have a plug there that I can remember. Could it be for auxiliary heating? Or electric pump?

No idea... there doesn't seem to be anything attached to the plug.

Servo-tronic steering option. The wire colours match...

Isn't that other wire mainly red? Wires on servotronic are black/white and black/red.

I'm not even sure what that option is.

I've always been curious about this as well, since my car has the same unused plug. Mine is a 6/2001 production 2001 E53 3.0i.

Wires on mine are black/white and black/red.

The connector has a cap on it (removed in one of the photos here). The wire is bundled up there, maybe with about 12" in total length if unfolded.

Then it sounds like a problem solved.
