camshaft position sensors

SES light is on in my 01 3.0, 66,542 miles, and I got the code camshaft position sensor bank-1 malfuntion. Should I change both intake and exhaust sensors? or there is way to tell which one needs to be changed first. Thanks.

I think that's the intake if I remember correctly. My intake went at 39K. I got it from autopartswarehouse as I indicated in your last post. The intake is a pain to do but the other seems easy. With your milage I would do both. I have some pics if you want to PM me.

when it happened to ours .. i took it to autozone to get the codes read and - it told us which one was bad ... - in our case both were bad - but 2 separate codes (1 for each) - so autozone should be able to tell you which one is bad ...

exhaust is very easy - intake takes time - i got the sensors from pacificbmw - installed exhaust myself - took it to a independent shop for intake - $100 for labor (sensors were $178 i think shipped) ... best of luck ...

What makes the intake sensors so tought to do? I read the DIY from the site found no information about this. I begin to get nervous now. Thanks guys.

Intake wiring goes behind the oil filter. Have to remove it. Just takes a little longer to do.
