MK3 Install

I have just received 2 used Mk3 units, when I connect them to my X5 the power indicator is on but the fan at the back isnt turning is this normal? it happens on the other unit aswell.when I push the eject button the tray doesnt open or accept cd,this also doesnt work on the other unit.......is there something that Im not doing or have overlooked.BTW the navigation icon does appear on my monitor...even though the normal deep blue colour I use to get is now a lightish colour.
My X5 is 2006 build, if that makes a difference.
I have also posted in nacoder 1.21 as Im not sure where my problem lies....so sorry for double posting.
