4 windows + sunroof open by themselves

I've read a few threads over the years in which people return to their vehicles after work or in the morning to find all 4 windows down and their sunroof completely opened. Can anyone who has experienced this tell me what was the fix?

My GF just bought a new E90 and she has experienced it twice. The first time it happened it was raining and her car got all wet inside. She made an appointment with the dealer to have it checked out next week. However, being that this is an intermittent problem it might be difficult for the dealer to diagnose. I've read on a couple of other forums that it can sometimes take weeks to diagnose.

I tried searching this forum but nothing of value was returned.

Much appreciated.

Be careful where you out your keys and how you handle them as you walk away from the vehicle. If you hold down button 1 for a few seconds its opens all the windows.

This has not happened to me, but it has unlocked on a me a few times as I stuffed my keys into a jeans pocket.

I don't know how likely it is, but maybe something near her work is broadcasting the right frequency to make your X open up...

maybe she had the key in her burse and something touch the unlock button ( like you press and hold the unlock button that will open the sunroof and roll down windows.)

Thanks for the responses. She is NOT holding down the unlock button on her keys. The keys are untouched.

to bring down all the windows the button would have to stay down, because u can stop the auto windows down at any point, so there's something wrong with the trigger i would assume - it's not your girlfriend.

Hello,
Have had the same problem today , the 4 windows opens by themselves , without pushing any buttons on the key.
The front windows were fully open and the rear opened a couple of inches , they were at the same hight (which you can't do by pushing a button on the key).
To much electronics in an X5 I think.
Greatings
Bart

Windows going down by themselves

Ive had this happen to me and was able to witness this live in my garage. What I discovered was that the spare key, which was in the other room was running low on juice and some how caused this. I used the dead key the next day to charge it and the problem went away. This has not happened since.
