Out of Warranty Prep question...

Hello all,
I have been lurking here for a few weeks as I purchased an '05 3.0 Sport and have been soaking up all the good information here.

I currently have 45k on the odometer and the bumper to bumper warranty runs out in 12/08. The truck is CPO so I am covered until 100k or/ 2 more years.
I would like to take advantage of the bumper to bumper coverage and replace as many things as I can. The truck recently had an oil change and brake pads done...with all green bars lit.

I have been searching on this issue and hear others talk about a thorough "inspection". How do you request for this inspection? do you have to pay for it?

Please share your thoughts/experiences.

The "Inspection" is only covered under orig. Maintenance coverage, which
should still be ticking on your MY, as should the orig/oem Warranty.

The CPO should kick in when your oem Warranty expires...the CPO is a less
than full oem warranty and does not cover "maintenance" items. Your
relationship with your Stlr will have great effect on CPO coverage in
future, imo.

Inspection II, which is on your horizon, is only induced/done, when
your green indicator lights are gone...assuming it had Insp I done.

You might ask Stlr to "run your key" to see what work/TSBs/maintence
has been done in its history.

Do yourself a favor and read the fine print in your CPO; however, you
still should have 5k miles left on the oem warranty and maintenance
coverages.

if your car is under warranty and the maintenance items are not scheduled yet based on BMW standards, for example, BMW oil change interval is every 15,000 miles, let's say you want to have an oil change at 5000 after, they wont do it, that's how they are. Same thing applies with inspection 2 (since insp. 1 is basically just oil change), if its not due, they wont do it, and replace whatever parts are due to be replaced. But 45K is still considered low compared to others, and yet, some of their X still runs as good as new. The key is preventive maintenance, and if you do DIYs on easy items, then do it, do not wait for dealer service intervals. BTW, :xoutpost:
