Wheel Decision/Search

Newbie here - I have ben quietly been observing in the backround (very impressed!), finally deceided to just ask...

I recently purchase a 2006 X5 4.4i. It has 18" wheels on it. I (like many of you have done) would like to upgrade to 20" wheels. Still undecided between the Style 214 and the Style 87's-with the 87s probably going to win out. Problem is I have seen so many listings for style 214 out there (both OEM and replica), but not much on the 87's. Anyone out there know of where I can get 87's at a fair price (maybe even with tires already mounted) new or used? Thanks...

Welcome Dave,
You've got yourself a prob that is enjoyed by many. Although it sounds like you've made up your mind take a peep at other choices up for grabs other than the 87's & 214's, like 132's, 168's and 215's, all of which look great on post facelift X's.

This is from the home page on rim styles:X5world - wheels.htm

Below are 132's, 214's, 168's & 215's. Good luck deciding and post pics.

Are the 215's "official" BMW wheels? Mmm, they look fun to clean!

Yes, they certainly are. I believe they are an option rim on E70's. I'd say well worth the clean as they look the goods. Me, I went with easier to clean, solid spoke 132's. Would've been just as happy with 87's or 168's. Research well and push for a good deal. Being in NY consider the cost of a winter setup as well.

I'd imagine the stealership charges an arm, leg and maybe a lung for the 215's? I've seen em on ebay starting at $700 for the complete set and it just seems like something isn't right, they look far more expensive. Is that a normal price for em?

215 is without question the style I'm gonna go with, powder coated gun metal I think. I've got 130's right now and they're a nightmare of tight corners to clean, 215's at least have smoothed out corners.

Sorry Dave, didn't mean to hijack.

Something both Dave and I will need is spacers tho, any suggestions on spacer sizes to kick a 20x10.5 just a hair past the fender flares?
