STS Turbo System on 4.4L

Has anyone considered installing a STS Turbo system on their X5? I've looked at this in some detail and it appears there is enough room to mount the turbos, route the piping, and fabricate an intake system. The only problem I see so far is ECU reprogramming to compensate for the boost/fuel.

Thoughts?

No way in hell I'd stress the transmission and transfer case in this truck that much.

Nah man. Lots of people have supercharged these things. I remember reading several times that the drive line can handle 500+ hp all day long.

the diesels have a turbo . and loads of torque . and chew up GM transmissions on the older versions . newer versions have the ZF transmission .

ZF transmission = failure. Even with a mere 318 hp.

Has it been proven that these transmissions are failing due to load/power? I see a lot of supercharged 4.4's that don't seem to have many issues. A turbo would be no different, other then more torque at a lower RPM with more abrupt spooling (still not harsh though, it's not going to "shock" the drivetrain).

I'd rather have a supercharger then a turbo in an automatic vehicle, but it's still a cool and different approach. Turbo's are much more efficient.

I've thought about the transmission issue and would rebuild it to handle more power. Couple local places specialize in euro transmissions with upgrades. I think it could be build to handle the power of a fairly low boost setup, say no more than 8psi. Will need bigger injectors for sure. Another concern is the diff/xfrcase. I haven't read enough about these to know the weak points, but again I think a rebuild might help.

This had me thinking about another power adder.....nitrous oxide. Anyone run a fairly small shot of n2o, say 75hp shot?
