you mentioned that you let the car go to sleep - I usually verify the sleep status, when i see the MK4 asleep... how did you confirm the car went asleep?
what else do you have connected in line with the Nav? a TV module, perhaps? |

I verified the "sleep" by the light on the shifter, goes out after the normal 16 minutes or so and I left the cover off of the pck panel where the dvd is located and that light stays on solid on the dvd. Nothing else connected to the system other than the bluetooth module, and for testing purposes I turned off the bluetooth on my phone. Last night i went outside around 11 and saw the light on the dvd was still on after the car had been sitting for 4 + hours, so I ended up pulling the 5 amp fuse in the back fuse panel #75 and that shut down the dvd player and it started right up this morning.

interesting - i thought that one awake module would keep the entire car awake... but obviously, it does go to sleep, as you mentioned...
was there any recent work done in the trunk area? you mentioned the front screen being messed up - was there any work done on the screen? I am asking to see if there is a possibility for a kinked or shorted wire in the harness, or a poor connection on the connectors... When did you notice this ordeal inthe first place? can you attribute that to any external event? |

No work done to speak of, yeah i replaced the battery last february with a new battery, the original one was shot, put the battery in and everything was fine because i was using the car everyday, spring and summer i don't use it everyday and that's when I started to notice that if it wasn't started every day the battery was dead. So looking around at the dead battery issues on here i noticed the normal bla bla final stage resistors, but mine is ok. on saturday i went and got the battery replaced with a new bosch 900cca, little better than the 850 cca they call for, installed it and decided to pull the ampmeter out to do some checking. Closed the bottom rear door and clicked the latch to simulate the door is closed. The car went into sleep mode and started at the fuse panel to check for current running across the fuses and #75 had full current running across it, when i pulled it i then noticed the light on the nav dvd play light went out.. So i am kind of thinking now that yeah probably when i let the original battery die, and then replaced it i did some damage to it.

yes navigation works fine, it is reading the dvd fine, it ejects it and takes it back in ok as well. now i guess there are different software or firmware versions for the mkiv, how can i tell what version I have ? would that have anything to do with it ?

worth trying... from main menu on the screen, go to settings.. top right corner should have numbers, such as 4-2/60, or 4-2/35... the maximum it can be is 4-2/00 (4=MK4, 2=color screen, the last two digits - sw version. v.100 is latest for MK4)

the firmware update disk is about $10 from a dealer. if you call your local dealer,he will try to sell you a $200 Maps update (new roads, addresses and whatever)... You will need to EXPLAIN to the sales person, that you need the software/firmware update... I need to search around for the part number - I had it posted somewhere... that disk will bring you to 4-2/00 (i hope it will change the 1 to 2), and we will take it from there...
