HID Fog's "PROBLEM"

So I installed some goodies over the holiday and I am very dissapointed to say it looks like my hard work did not pay off this time.

I installed a 35W H11 HID kit in the fogs.. And like all other set's I've installed, it wired up and bench tested perfectly. I have both burning fine in Key pos 1 & 2 with parking light circuit on car not running. I button everything up and go to test......

So I turn the key and get the X5 running. Hit the fogs and one lights up then the other then they flicker and go out one after another.

I check my coding and my LCM has all monitoring off. COLD, Warm And HOT.. no check control at all.

I hit the HID low beams. same deal. the fogs wont stay on. while the car is running. One time I turned them on while my lows were on and I get the SLS inactive message and the lows flickered and the drivers side bulb quit working. I turn the car off and back on and the SLS message is gone but when I hit the fogs the LKM starts freaking out again. flashing fogs and lows...It even populated my washer fluid low waring on the MID in German briefly.....

I'm not very happy with this LCM right now. To me it's looking like it can't handle the load of two set's of HID ballasts at once.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to hard wire the fogs with a relay on a separate 12v circuit and use WDS to find the 12V on for my OEM fog switch so I don't have to wire in a separate switch...that's alot of work for what should be a plug and play installation.

Venting here does make me feel a bit better but I still have no HID fogs
That is unless I'm parked without the car running then they looks great....
Alot of good that does me.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I've had kind of the same situation before. Happened 2 days ago, never had this problem before that. I would turn on the fogs, and they will automatically turn off, even though the fog light symbol is on in the dash. Pressed the button a few times, fog lights don't light up but the icon will come on when I press the fog and off when I push it again. Turned off my car and on again and the issue never occurred again.

You need a set of error chancellery, regardless of whether bulb check is turned off or on. In fact, if you leave bulb check on and install the error cancellers, it will work as intended. Here's a link: http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/Er...minator-3-PAIR

Plug those in in-line with the HID ballast and everything will work perfectly.

Edit: Also, turn the bulb checking back ON. I'm pretty sure turning it off confuses the car in regards to the factory HID headlights.

Good Call Papa!
I had not considered resistor packs. I have used them in the past on other BMW's like most people do to eliminate the bulb out message from the check control in the LCM. That was before I had the ability to code the LCM.
I guess I assumed that the coding I've done to eliminate check control on the fog light circuit of the LCM eliminated the need for eliminators so to speak

I suppose the Resistor packs will even out the draw from the digital HID ballast on the fog circuit of the LCM.

subscribing....
also, did you set up the fogs to stay on with the high beams - in case if you need to flash the highs, the fogs will not turn off/on...

I like the double blinks, I think it is more noticeable if I do find myself on side of the road waiting for AAA.

I'm using a program called Navcoder and a homemade Ibus interface I whipped up.

A forum member on Bimmerboard wrote it.

I've been meaning to do a write up on it but I've been too busy.

Here is a link to his site.

NavCoder Website

I built this interface to use.

I've used it to code Nav Computers, Radios, Telephone, TV in motion and LKM of course

I'm waiting on my NCS setup from the Ebay seller in Romania now. Then I'll really be able to really play and customize.

I also have a brother in-law at an import indy that just purchased the Autologic Tool. So hopefully I can play with that as well and get the SAV Tuned too. I hear that can do everything and then some to our cars including customized tunes via Email from across the pond.

cool!!! i've a member of the ibushack on the yahoo for last 7-8 years or so... but their stuff was too technical... lol... i have the navcoder, but it did not connect to the car for me... something in the port settings... i did not pursue it much... i use that cable from the guy in romania, and i also have a carPC with CIS-IBUS that i will install when it warms up... that carPC might be able to run "macros" that may allow the fold/unfold, the rolling of the windows, and even the AEs on with the engine - the LCM is capable of lighting up each Angel Eye individually, independently form the other lights... this is much later - I still need to figure out how to work inside Linux...

THOSE ARE NOT RESISTORS. Those are CAPACITORS. If you wire resistors in-line with your HID ballasts, you could pop something.
