Another droning sound head banger (for me at least)

Good morning people from the internet
After few years of happy ownership my 2005 3.0i x5 developed a really loud droning sound coming from the front at any speed. So naturally i changed the front wheel bearings with new ones from the dealership thinking that this will be the cure and the sound will go away. How ever.... the sound is still there.
Really annoying.
So next step was to search online ....some say tires may have gone bad...
tires are good year assurance and are no more than 4 years old (not the newest rubber but still looks fine plenty of tread no signs of drying....etc.)
The sound is from the get go so i do not think tires are a problem here.
Other people say carrier bearing on the drive shaft.
The car have 105 000 mls. Is it possible ?
I am lost... i just want to hear what do you guys think before i start blindly changing tires and bearings all over again.
Thanks for any input.

Ok, so the sound starts off as soon as you move. Does it happen in reverse and in forward gears? Some people have said it could be the Guibo, but normally that happens at higher speeds.

Just to clarify, the noise only happens when the X is moving right? How does the tranny function? Also could be the CV's in the front...

Need a little more clearer info.

Perhaps something is loose and is vibrating. Have you check the splash pan under the car?

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
well the droning sound from the wheel bearings only makes noises above 30-40 mph so I'd say it wasn't your bearings to begin with, you said any speed.

If you pop the trans in neutral does it go away?

Thank you guys for chiming in.
To answere all the questions
The sound is present only when the x is moving at any speed above 5 mph let say.
When is not moving everything is good. In reverse I have not noticed the sound but I will double check today since I crawl in reverse for shirt distances.
The transmission is top notch no problems there.
About the guibo... Well I had failing guibo before in my e30... So I know what that would be like it shakes like mofo.
The sound is also defenetily not from a lose panel.
When I drive the car and put it in neutral and let it cows the sound does not goes away.
I may make an audio recording and try to post it.
It's defenetily from something constantly rolling when in motion and the "roling sound " just travels tru the chassis in the cabin. Muffled annoying rolling sound.
And that what throwed me in the tire/ carrier bearing direction.
I may be wrong.
Driving on twisty roads doesn't change the sound aswell.
I tried to load and unload the bearings by going left and right but the sound stayes the same.
Weird.
Like a year ago I had faled cv boot so I replaced them both but I did not replaced the cv joints itself.. You guys think that may be?
Thanks again.

CV's should only make noise while turning. So no, I don't think those are the cause.

Here is the easiest way, BUT YOU NEED A LIFT! I highly discourage you from doing this on jackstands. Get the X5 with all 4 wheels in the air and a driver in the vehicle. Turn traction control off. Then see if it will make the noise in the air and have someone else inspect under the vehicle looking for the source of the sound. A shop should be able to to do this for you paying the shop minimum charge as this should only take 5-10 minutes.

Or you can do these things:
Change the fluid in the differentials and transfer case. Check the condition of the old fluid. Burnt smell? Take a pic of the old fluid.
If you see lots of metal particles or metal chunks in the fluid, that item should probably be replaced. I destroyed a couple of diff's on my first E30 and it was always the same result, similar to your symptoms. The second time I replaced it, whole teeth from the gears actually fell out when I drained it.
Check the center bearing for the rear driveshaft if you don't find anything with the fluid changes.

Also, don't rule out tires yet. If one tire is having a carcass separation issue, or there was some other manufacturing defect it can be noisy. I'm assuming you don't have any way to swap wheels/tires with another X5 to verify those aren't the cause? Narrow down your location in your contact info. Location: USA is a little too vague. Maybe you live by another member here who may be willing to swap tires with you long enough to test drive and verify that isn't the cause.

Well looks like I have some testing to do ))
I would like to thank all of you for your input.
I will dig in to the problem and will keep you posted on the outcome.
I really hope my "mall crawler" does not have diff problems... We will see.
I live on Nantucket Island, MA if there is another islander here on the topic wiling to swap tires with me for couple of hours.

Subscribed! Have a very bad drone at 65. Goes away a little at higher speeds, but is always present while the car is moving at any speed. The sound does sound like tires though. I have brand new Bridgestone Duelers and a proper BMW alignment. I took my truck to the dealer and told them my problem. They checked out the vehicle and didn't say anything else was wrong. I'm at a loss for now.

Soooo, finally!
First of sorry that it took me so long to update the situation! Have been busy busy busy...
The problem lies with the tires. I found another X and i swapped the tires and the noise was gone. I still can not believe that a tire can make such a bad noise. Even the couple mechanics i Talked were shocked.
The tires itself are Good Year Assurance with not even 10,000 miles on them, plenty of tread..go figure.
Anyway after i found that the tires are the source of my problem, I rotated them just to see if the noise changes. And it did. Noise is still present but its definitely different than before.
So here is my advise if I may, If you experience droning/wheel bearing type noise and you recently have replaced your bearings, or you are unsure if they are the problem, swap tires with someone, or at least rotate them first to see if the noise disappear or changes, before start replacing parts
Amen!

Now whats left is... any tires recommendations ? )
