X3 Frequently Asked Questions

What is an X3?

The X3 is an all-new BMW that, like the X5,

embodies Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) versatility. Governed by the xDrive
intelligent system, the X3 sets high standards in agility for
all-wheel-drive vehicles.

Current colors are Mystic Blue, Silver Grey, Titanium Silver, Black

Sapphire and Blue Water. In March, 2004 Highland Green and Flamenco Red will
phase-in. Interior leather colors are beige, black, grey, and terracotta.

How is the X3 designed?

Its modern design features interacting concave and

convex surfaces that project a youthful and sporty appearance. The double
kidney grille (a BMW trademark), the head and rear lights as well as the
“Hofmeister kink” in the rear side windows are newly interpreted. A long
wheelbase with short overhang and the sloping roofline accentuate the
dynamic character and performance of this new model. Flared wheel arches
and the striking front section underline its bold appearance.

With its wide opening rear tailgate, owners get lots of space to take
along all kinds of gear – even mountain bikes. There’s more storage and
functionality in the numerous compartment areas.

The interior blends luxury and comfort in a modern and spacious cabin.
High seats afford occupants a clear and commanding perspective. The
classic, easy-to-read analog gauges are grouped in an elegant housing
encasement. In the middle of the dashboard is the optional Navigation
system with a 16:9 color monitor that flips up whenever required.

What is xDrive?

The intelligent xDrive system sets new standards

for all-wheel-drive vehicles.

xDrive allows infinitely adjustable and fully variable distribution of
torque, front-to-rear. The system immediately recognizes a need for a
change in power distribution and responds quickly. As a result, the X3 is
extremely responsive and corners with significantly minimized understeer
and oversteer.

On the road, xDrive offers a significantly higher standard of agility,
driving pleasure and safety features.

How good is performance?

The X3 3.0i is energized with 225 horsepower; the

X3 2.5i offers 184 horsepower. Both models come standard with a six-speed
manual transmission. A five-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission is
available as an option.

Towing capacity for the 3.0 engine is 4,410

lbs.

What about safety features?

This BMW offers the latest, state-of-the-art,

active and passive safety systems and features. The X3 SAV is engineered
to have a very low center of gravity.

xDrive keeps the vehicle very stable and sure-footed. It provides better
grip and traction on slippery or rough terrain, with drive power being
shifted continuously to the wheels with the best available grip.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) enhances stability on virtually all types
of road surfaces.

BMW’s Hill Descent Control (HDC) is available for driving down hills, even
on loose group or slippery surfaces.

With added-value features, the X3 driver is comfortably in control with
sure handling and powerful traction.

Where can I see the X3?

It is available through authorized BMW SAV centers.
