Very happy with the service and results. Would recommend to anyone.
That top gouge is a good 2mm deep, right into the alloy.
24hr turn around for us. And $100 cheaper than another business whom offered a mobile wheel repair service.
Family business, with people that own and drive impeccable vehicles themselves.
No smoke and mirrors, just good honest quality work...

brilliant! so based on your previous quote for the mobile guy this cost under $200?

Salty_Dog 07-09-2014 05:58 AM

Wheel Fix It (mobile) quoted me $275
Wheel Solutions were $175 (no favours, just the regular price)

I said to my partner, imagine if we were getting all 4 wheels done, an extra $400 with the other guy.
Plus Wheel Solutions had a workshop filled with $$$$ machines, Not sure what the mobile guy had, but its what ever is in his van.
Mobile maybe a solution for some people.
We already had our spare wheel fitted and damaged wheel in the boot, so it was no difference to us.
Drop off, Pick up.... Too easy.

Colour Match

Not so sure about the colour match.
Although, the wheel fitted is 8 years old and currently dirty
The other is new, fresh from painting and clear coat.

Looks better than 'scratched' colour lol. Should be fine with a bit of road and brake dust.

Wurth wheel paint is a perfect match for most German OEM wheels for what it's worth. Hard to get a hold of it though.

Yes, i'm sure a Brand New Rim would have had the same effect against something that has seen 6 years of UV rays, Grit and Road Grime.

Maybe hit your 'old' wheels with some compound polish and some wax, might bring them up closer to the glossy clear coat on the resprayed wheel. I think the colour match is actually pretty close, just the clear coat is dulling the metallic making it look different.

I have a Mother's Power Cone on my 18V drill that I use on my wheels which makes getting around all those angles v easy.

Then finish off with Poorboy's Wheel Sealant and the road grime just falls off at the first sign of water.

I am liking the tip Smokey, thank you.

We have a Wash and Wax system that see's the painted panels handling road grime the same way. But i am a bit lazy on the wheels.
Plus i have never been able to come at the price they ask for those Mothers Power Cones!

How is it lasting?

Yeh - you gotta want to do it, that's for sure. If money were no object, you can get nano sealants - like Sonax NanoPro - it's like teflon coating for your wheels. I'd get the whole damn car done (OptiCoat or FI's 'Full Metal Jacket'......but on an X5 you'd be looking at $700 minimum I reckon:wow:

I got the Power Cone off amazon. They're quite pricey here, but I think i got one delivered for about $40. It's held up really well.

I have used it with metal polish in the past, which has stained it a bit - but a good soak in some hot soapy water usually bring it back to life.

Salty_Dog 07-17-2014 01:34 AM

Great, i'll look at getting one from US or elsewhere.
I have a kit for Metal Polishing, but its more for Stainless and Alloys.
Certainly not for painted surfaces or clear coats.

So i dont mind getting a product purely for the X5 wheels
