This is the latest info I got:

From what I’m hearing, retrofitting BT/Assist ULF units will only work on X5s that currently have BMW Assist and dated from 3/04 up to 10/04. In addition I was told that BMW is working on software-only upgrade for those M/Y vehicles which was also mentioned in March 2005 Roundel Magazine.

So my understanding is that X5s w/Assist built from 03/04 to 10/04 might not need expensive parts and costly labor to have a functional BT/Assist system, but rather just an inexpensive software upgrade. Either way, I’m going to hold off and hopefully in the near future see what BMW delivers.

Also, my local dealer has informed me that apparently BMW is working on what will be some sort of “Universal ULF” (BT/Assist) unit that will work with most if not all models dated back to late 2002. But so far that's just a rumor.

Cool, thanks for the info. FWIW, PhilS told me that the snap in doesn't work because it is only to be used in eject boxes that DO NOT have pairing buttons, which I guess if for the 2005 BT/Assist combo units. He got that info from as master tech in NJ who needed to know exactly what the issue was.

Vaheh at Crevier Parts states that 2005 BT/Assist module (-993) will be superceded by a newer Bluetooth module....That may be the one you are talking about.....

Nevertheless, in your 2004 X5, all you have to do is swap the Assist module with the -993 and it will work on your car. You may need to get a BT Antenna....You DON'T need a pairing button. You already have the MIC since you probably have BMW Assist in your 4.8iS.

I've got a -552 in my 04 X with the eject box. I don't want to start swapping out all of the hardware in the X. It's a lot easier to get a different phone. I might give Cingular a shot this week.

This is my very first post here. Since X5World has been so great to me especially some of you folks who regularly post here, I feel really obligated to share a bit of the news regarding this V710 snap-in adapter

Just yesterday evening, I bought (for my wife) the V710 adaptor as I just got her a new V710 phone. She has a '03 X5 3.0 and late last year, installed the BT kit on the X5.

Well, after reading the challenges you ran into regarding getting the V710 snap-in adapter to work, I was skeptical about my success. Tonight, after work, took my wife's keys for the X5 and plugged in this new V710 adapter I got. Hallelujia, it came on. The V710 phone was charging as well as I could see all signal strength at full.

My X5 does not have Assist and the BT kit was purchased from Crevier, and I installed it based upon the instructions I got from X5world. So, long story short, this snap-in adapter appears to work with eject boxes that has the pairing button.

Great feedback on the 2003. I suspect BMW made some wiring changes on the 2004/2005 that is causing the conflicts described by Rangerfan and TripleX5.

I hope that I didn't speak too soon.

For refresher, I just installed the V710 snap-in adapter onto my '03 X5 and it appears that it was charging and received full signal strength for the antenna.

This morning, I found time to pair the new V710 phone with my X5. Pairing went very well. Within seconds, I was able to get to input the passkey into my V710 phone.

Mine you, this V710 phone is my secret gift for my wife (she doesn't know yet) and therefore has not been activated. I had not moved her Verizon service from her T720 over to this new V710.

So, while I was preparing to sign off from my X5, I noticed that the V710 displayed 'Disconnecting BMW ULF'. I checked the configuration on the phone and I had it set to 'Power ON' for the BT. Further observation indicates that the V710 displays cycled between 'Connecting BMW ULF' and seconds later, 'Disconnecting BMW ULF'. This goes on forever.

I went ahead to selected BT to 'Power OFF' and dug up my original installation instructions. On one of the page (I think pg 9) of the BMW BT installation manual, I read the topic of F-Coding ULF Control Module to Vehicle. When I installed this unit late last year, didn't recall having to Code the ULF module. I even recalled pairing my old V600 phone and it worked at that time. I also recalled a set of instructions listed within X5World by one of the forum users that coding ULF is not needed (though I cannot find that article anymore).

So, long story short, I hope my situation is caused by the V710 not being activated. It is running the new code 8700-1.40 (I think)

Any ideas here???

With the Visteon module, the V710 is compatible with 1.3 Software and 552 Module or 1.4 Software and 522 Module but no phone book pairing either way.

The V710 is not compatible with the 089 or 387 Module
