Stupid person needs help
I have an '04 4.4i with DSP and Assist
I want bluetooth and voice recognition. I also want to keep Assist. I would also like to keep my phone in the armrest (I've got a CPT 9000 in the car right now, so I've already got the armrest cradle and the microphone) and I would also like it to be connected to an antenna and a power source (so it can charge) while it's there. I've searched the forum and it sounds like I can do at least SOME of this stuff, and maybe even all of it. However, there seem to be 3 basic "paths": the upgraded TCU path, the OEM BT retrofit path and the VR module path. I've managed to confused the heck out of myself trying to figure out which of these paths, or which combination, I need to go down to get where I want to be - or whether I need to go down another path entirely. I can't believe I'm the first/only person to try to accomplish this, so there MUST be someone out there who's already done this mod or at least knows how. Whomever that person is... HEEELLLPPPP!!! TIA |
I don't think you can keep the CPT phone and have bt at the same time...

I'm not trying to keep the cpt phone
it's actually a POS and I'd like to replace it with a BT phone - WITH VR.
Sorry, I should have clarified that. |
Read a few of these articles/threads and see if they help.
From BT forum: LINK From BT section: LINK ----------- LINK So here's my take. You can install the BT/assist module from an 05' to work in your 04' with no problem. In order to have VR, you will need to install a separate VR module. You will already have power and car antenna accessability in your armrest. Read these articles/links, and come back with any other questions. Greg |
Thanks Greg, that helps a lot, but a few more Q's
I had read some of those, but hadn't been able to put it all together. Your post w/the links really helped.
To summarize:
Still confused about the antenna: what antenna does the CPT 9000 (my current phone) use? Why can't I use it with a BT phone? This link: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...bluetooth.html discusses an antenna connection in the LR quarter panel - as if the X5 is pre-wired for an antenna in the center console. However, my service advisor at BMW told me that if I upgrade to the '05 TCU, I won't have an integrated antenna. Still wondering about charging the phone in the cradle: The Moto E815 uses the same charging/power connection as the V60s/CPT 9000. If the V60 can charge in the cradle, it seems to me I should be able to use the same connection to charge the E815. Has anyone done this? Once again, Thanks in advance for all the help! |

Did you install the MOTO 815 yourself?
Are you telling me that the v710 snap-in works for the E815?
Thanks again for all the help Greg. I've made more progress in one morning than I have in the past week. |

does the snap-in come with any wiring
for the antenna and/or for the power hook-up? Or is that something I need to buy separately?
Sorry about all the questions, but I'm coming to discover that what my BMW mechanic said was not possible, appears to be not only possible, but actually fairly straightforward. What bothers me about this is that he's worked on my cars for more than 10 years, has become sort of a friend, and was just recently promoted to shop foreman. I've always taken his word as gospel. |
