Bluetooth module power connector
Hi all, I'm a new member at these magnificent forums where I have been reading on for quite a while now. Learning a lot especially about the navigation systems found in our cars. But here I am with a question regarding bluetooth in an E39 (I know it's an X forum but I reckon the specialists regarding BT are on here anyway).
I already posted below on M5board.com but nobody seems to know the answer to my question; Quote:
Thank you in advance for your answers! Kr Bjorn |
The 12 pin power plug is right next to the navigation computer on the bracket with the black 6 pin connector
|
Thank you for your quick answer!
Nonetheless, that is what I was fearing. There is no such connector in my car on that position. I can clearly see that there are some tabs foreseen to put the connector however. I believe the connector might have been used for the viasat system which is also in my car. Maybe you can tell me were the original power connector originates from (under the back seat or something) so that I can backtrack this and put the connector back in its original place and install the BMW BT. |
Old topic back up...
I am still wondering, a couple of months later, if bluetooth can be added to my car. As mentioned, I do not have the power connector available in the trunk of my car. I also have looked a lot at different DIY's and the bimmernav site but no-one seems to have this same problem... I now have found the following on realoem.com: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...03&hg=84&fg=20 If someone could please verify if this is the cable (#4) that powers the ULF? Thank you all in advance... |
Hi Bjorn, welcome to the forum,
I've retrofitted BT to my 02 e46, mine also did not have any phone pre-wire, so i started from scratch and made my own retrofit harness, I used the radio modules quadlock connector to provide all that was needed for the 54 ULF connector (ie: power, switched power, GND, i-bus, tel-on, mute and so on), this is no different from a normal car phone kit. This is what i came up with (not this exact one but similar, I made this one for a friend). http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...0022008050.jpg Your car is similar to the e46, so I see no reason why you can't do the same, after all the BMW ULF acts exactly the same way as any aftermarket BT car kit (nokia, sony and parrot etc), the only real difference is the I-bus/Tel-on connection. Here is a link to what I did; http://www.xoutpost.com/bluetooth/324...tml#post329623 If you have any more qusetions the just e-mail or PM me. HTH BR//john |
you can also get a similar setup (with BMW parts) from www.bimmernav.com

Hi John, thank you for the welcome! It's a great place for us non-X5 owners when it comes to navi and BT
Thank you also for your explanation, but unfortunately I'm still in doubt. When I look at the tutorial made by Sportypants http://www.accessone.co.uk/images/ca...IT_PROJECT.pdf (which is the Bimmernav package) I assume that the harness on the first page is the same one as the one that you have created? I'm confused because I do not recognise the power connector on your harness (maybe it's plugged in one of the black plastic boxes?). The harness that I'm looking for is not the harness from the ULF to the mic etc... but the harness which provides the white plug as indicated in sportypants tutorial on page 35 (point 29) where the ULF harness has to be plugged in. I believe it is the X400 connector (http://www.e39.org/forums/posts/193851/) I'm not that well-known with electronics, that's why I always double check and check again :-). @Ambishop: Since the picture in the tutorial indicates what is included in the Bimmernav package, it seems so that the 12 pin connector harness is not included or maybe am I missing something? Thank you both very much in advance for your help! Bjorn |

If however, you have the x400 white power block then the Ambishop loom is definatly the best way to go, as it will be plug n play, (not blowing Ambishop trumpet, but his stuff really is very good). Quote:

John
I tried to send you a PM to thank you, but apparently your inbox is overloaded :-) I've been away on holidays with little or no internet access so I couldn't reply any earlier. So thank you very much for the info provided and to help me with my issue  Kr Bjorn |
Hi Bjorn,
Glad I could help mate, (just emptied my mail box, thanks for the heads up) :) BR//John |
Eject Box Wiring
I am hopeing you will be able to help me I have a UK 2004 X3 which does not have bluetooth prewired. I to have a Nokia kit which works fine but have also purchased a cradle and eject box for the centre armrest. The eject box has four wires, in a 18 block connector pin 1 Green pairing, 2 Brown Neg ground, 13 White cradel on, 5 Red 12volt supply. (This information has been found on this forum. I have tempory connected the red and brown up to the cigar lighter but it does not charge the phone do I have to link 13 to 5? and would I be able to connect up to the wires on the 6CD changer that is in the armrest. I know this is a old thread and hope you still are a member.
Regards, michael i |
The cradle will not charge by using the GND and +12v alone mate, it must also have the Cradle_on (from the ULF) connected too.
Do not connect the white to anything other than pin 11 on a ULF (so dont connect to power or gnd), cradle_on is a control wire not a power/gnd wire. |
Eject Box
Thank you for your quick reply I just hope that I have not damaged my eject box and cradle by trying the red and brown wires on the cigar lighter connectors. Perhaps when you have time you can let me know.
Being a OAP I will now start saveing up for a retro kit as I am sure you know you can no longer not get the wiring on it's own, so I unable to do what you have done by makeing up my own wiring like you have, unless you would like to make one for me and earn a few bob. I live in Cornwall. Kind regards and thank you. michael i |
ccfj1 Is crade_on active high or low? I'm sure with a resistor or two it could be made to charge without a ULF.

I know when I was looking at getting it working (without the ULF), it didn't work as I thought it would, and it had some funny charging on/off issues (depending on how it was connected). |
wiring bluetooth
Hi John,
Thank you again for replying to me. My car is a July 2004 X3 Sport without being prewired for Bluetooth. What I hope is that you are able to make up the wiring kit for it. I have purchased a Eject Box and Cradle for the center console, at present have Bluetooth via a Nokia CK7W kit and the phone used by me is a Nokia 6310i which I will not replace. BMW Retrofit kit for the car is 84 64 0 306 854. Eject Box fitted is 84 64 0 306 855 and into that is Cradle 84 21 6 930 108 for the Nokia 6310i. What I hope you will be able to do is make up the wiring loom, if it is of help I do have the BMW installation instructions for fitting which also includes the wiring digram with all the connections if it would be of help. I am not able to email them because I can't do things like that so will post it to you if you will give me your address. (PS I did send this email direct to you but hotmail returned it.) As I said to you yesterday the eject box has a 18pin connector (round male pins) with 1 Green Pairing 2 Brown Neg 13 White cradle on and 5 Red 12 volt supply. As you know this information I found on the Xoutpost site. I do not mind if you use second hand parts to fit it may also may be better for you to supply every thing at least you would then be able to test every thing before posting it to me. The main item is the harness made up. Let me know what you wish to do and if you are able to help. Kind regards Michael. |

It's always a help, but My looms are normally a lot easer than the OEM kit to install, Please send me the install PDF (via PM) and I'll have a look at how it connects. Quote:
Hmmm, I'll PM you my other account. Quote:
