I have to disagree about the functionality of the 2005 builds. My own X5 was built in May 2005, and had VR capability (along with the BT and Assist) from the day I drove it off the lot. I did have to have the module replaced due to malfunction about a year later, but the new module did not add any function to the system.

You are quite correct. I was out by 1 year in my dates! Thats what happens when you get older, your mind plays tricks. I've updated the original posts with the correct dates for the TCUS's

Not sure. I had a local BMW rep look at the problem and they contacted Germany. They informed him, it was a characteristic of the design, and nothing could be done.
