Bluetooth in 4.6is with TCU - help!

Guys

I bought a TCU on ebay (part no. 84106964113)

Anyway, plugged the 54 pin connector in from the boot, i am waiting for a new BT antenna from BMW which I presume has the cream FAKRA on it?

When turning the car on, I see no 'telephone' option on the nav screen. all the fuses are ok, and I have completely removed the old motorola phone and cabling from the armrest.

I am assured the TCU was working, what else can I try?

Thanks in anticipation

Sam

forgot to say, i'm in the UK and car is a 2002 4.6is which had the old motorloa phone in the armrest before.

Thanks

What kind of phone was your original system?...

I just noticed that you are in the UK. This could add a complexity. In the US market, we got fewer phone choices; therefore all of the pre-wiring is the same and compatible with the TCU modules. In European markets, BMW offered more phone systems, and some had different wiring. It gets tricky, because some of these other systems have the same 54-pin plug, but the wiring is not the same-- search the posts on the BIT II system, for example.

it was a motorola thing, not sure what else I can say about it, small, black, flip thing....!

2002 may mean you had the BITII. Check the WDS[/URL]. You will need Java and Adobe's SVG viewer. Search for TCU. If is a good idea to unplug the TCU until you are sure the wiring is correct, or permenant damage may occur.

thanks, but I am not really sure what I am looking for on there!?

Can you post a picture and part number of the telephone module you removed from the trunk?

samcoombes 08-13-2010 02:49 AM

will do when I get home from work - i did have a quick look, it is definately a black plastic box, motorloa sticker and other bits and bobs, and a big old fashioned computer style connector.

Think I may just resort to a Parrot kit - might be easier to sort!?

big bob 08-13-2010 03:39 AM

You have the DB25 on the old kit? That's a BITII. Where did you get the DB25 to 54 pin adaptor? Some have made their own. Beleive me, the OEM kit is better than the parrot. Caller ID, phonebook, fading audio, stock mic, ruggedised mechanics. All you have to do is plug it in using the right adaptor.
