Nokia N8 not transfering contacts

Hi, I paired the N8 fine, but the phone book is empty.
I tried the N800 (or whatever it is called) contacts download software from the nokia site, but no change at all.

anyone has been able to see the contacts on the car's screen?

Where are the contacts stored on that phone, is it the sim card? If not have you tried moving them to it?

Have you tried the process for transferring individual contacts across, its a pain in the neck, but it might work for you..

Unfortunately in my experience the newer your BT module the better chance you have of auto transferring the contacts.

I have not tried transferring the contacts to SIM yet, as my contacts are with multiple numbers, photos, emails etc...

But I guess it is another miss for Nokia and BMW :( ...again

Try this mate, it works with my x6 and my old n95

First, delete the pair on the phone and car.

Then, go into pairing mode on the car, and use the X6/N95 to find the car. Enter your pin number so the phone is paired. Don't exit pairing mode on the BMW yet.

Now on the X6/N95 go to contacts. Select about 10-15 contacts, Then go to options -> send business card -> via bluetooth. Select the BMW from the list of bluetooth devices and it'll send them across. Repeat for the rest of your contact list.

You may end up with a few duplicates in your BMW phonebook depending on whether your original contacts had multiple phone numbers or not. But it definitely works and displays incoming call name properly etc.

I tried doing the whole contacts list in one go but it failed - doing it piecemeal takes a little longer but its a one time thing.

My car is a 2003 E46 with satnav + TV + BT prep (Gen13). Anyone with a different model please report back if this procedure works.

Cheers mate

I am leaving this as a last resort because once the contacts are transferred this way you are stacked with them ... I mean no update on them.

It is really annoying to have to do this with a BT 3.0 phone, exactly in the same manner as I did so time ago with a Ericsson T39m!!! probably among the first phones to have BT...it did work with ericsson all the contacts at once btw

The car is the same in both cases - E53 05 reg

To update, delete the pair and start again.

Blame Nokia, they have dropped support of the PBAP protocol (and gone back on an agreement with BMW).

it's a pity...sync of the phonebook is important :(

Buy a phone that works with the car then, not the phone you like.

apetrov1x5 11-28-2010 04:35 PM

I want to like both - the car and the phone :)...

Nokia seems to have departed from the globally accepted norm for phonebook transfers with their smart phones.
