Bluetooth not pairing - late 2004 E53

Hi all,

I am unable to pair any new phones with the bluetooth system. I had an old phone that was paired with it and that still connected but nothing new.
When I run throught the method to pair it does nothing at all, almost like the butting isnt working.

I have been searching the forums and it seems some people are leaving the module unplugged for a while, pulling he fuse, replacing the module, someone had the wires going into the module repaired.
I have tried pulling the fuse and unpluging the unit with no joy.

Does anyone know another way to get into the pairing mode? Is anyone aware of the 2 pins that go from the pairing button to the module? Maybe i can just short them out acting like a button? If it still wont go into pairing mode after shorting it out it would have to be the module.

Does anyone know a way you can reset the module? Im thinking there might be a phone "locked" in it. Is there a way of erasing everything in it and starting fresh? I have a K+DCAN USB interface so could reset it that way (if you can get to the bluetooth module that way?

Cheers,
Dale

Do you have a ULF or a TCU bluetooth? They are two different bluetooth modules whihc require different approaches. You may need to go and look at it; it's in the boot behind the carpet on top the GPS rack.

It is a ULF unit.

In the past i have sucessfully used this method to pair a phone:
1. Put the key into position 0
2. Hold the pairing button (in the centre console) for 10 seconds
3. Turn the key to position 1
4. Keep holding the pairing button
5. Message "phone pairing" or something like that came up on the dashboard and I was able to pair the phone.

Now when I do this nothing happens at all. I have tried it tens of times with suttle changes but still nothing.

Cheers

Keep holding the button for 10s to clear all paired phones, you should get a confirmation message.

Remember you must use the button on the phone console, the one on the steering wheel will not do.

Keep holding it for 10seconds when?
I think i have held it for 10seconds in ever position now but i'll give it another try.

I think it's 3s after IGN on, then a further 10s to delete pairings.

Deleting Devices
The paired Bluetooth mobile phones can only be deleted as a single group from the ULF control module.
The pairing procedure must first be activated, and then the send/receive
button on the installed eject-box or the pairing button located at the rear of the center console must again be depressed for an additional 10 seconds after the “Bluetooth Pairing” message is displayed on the radio in order to clear the list of paired devices from the control module and the message “paired devices deleted” is displayed.
So maybe not the answer for you, since you can't enter pairing.

Yep I have tried this procedure but no joy.
I cant get into the pairing mode to remove the other connected devices.

As i can see it, there is 3 possible things wrong:
1. the ULF is faulty and needs to be replaced.
2. the ULF is faulty and the software needs to be rest on it somehow.
3. the button/wiring to the ULF is faulty.

I would like to test option 3 by shorting out pairing button pins at the times needed to pair the device. I have been looking for a pinout of the ULF but at this stage had little success.

If this still fails I am trying to find out if the software can be reset. I have a K+DCAN USB cable and software to reset this if it is possible this way.

If this still doesnt work and nothing else is working i will have to buy a new/second hand module.

The pairing button shorts to ground one of the wires in the eject box. I think it's a green wire on pin 1 or 2. You could Google for the pairing button DIYs to see which are the active pins.
