Thumbs down Bill Jacobs BMW, Naperville, IL

www.billjacobsbmw.com

When it comes to servicing a car, A++ service, loaner car provided, etc.

However, the other side of the dealership -- SALES -- is not what I would expect it to be.

1) Low volume
That means higher prices. Also, I was informed that 'we can't discount as much as other dealerships because we don't move as many cars as .....'. Moreso, there is this sense of entitlement that people in this western suburb of Naperville should pay more for BMWs. Very discouraging.

2) Trade in value experience
I was offered much less on a trade in (by $6000) on my pristine 2001 BMW X5. The appraiser told me that the back end of the car had been repainted and was in an accident. Funny how I don't ever remember being rear ended. He pointed out the 'layers' of paint inside the rear door jamb. These layers of paint were funny in that they either wiped clean with a cloth or my fingernail as they were LAYERS OF WAX. Hand applied Zymol. He sat there and argued with me, and insinuated that I was trying to trade in a car that was wrecked. I asked him to run a CAR FAX and see. They didn't. It was a take it or leave it scenario. I left and went back to my original dealership -- you might be able to figure out who.

Then, to get my deposit back was a nightmare. I have a letter than I will refrain from posting from their general manager where she states that they do not have to refund my deposit, but she is doing so 'in good will.' Funny. I did not sign a sales contract nor invoice. I had put it on a credit card, and was going to contest the charge if not refunded after the fiasco with the trade in. It took a nasty phone call and a letter before I received the credit.

In summary, I cannot recommend Bill Jacobs for new car sales. I have no experience for used car sales, so I cannot comment.

I hope others have had better experiences with the sales staff there.

Jacobs?

I can give you an earful about "Bill Jacobs". I bought a CPO (description left out to protect the guilty), and after owning the car 3 days the oil light went on. The long and short of it is that the dealer incorrectly changed the oil and as a result the oil drained out of the car over the course of few days. The good news is that this happened a few years ago and I've had no problems since. I'd stay away from their service shop... Howabout the door dings from Perillo in Chicago....?

Cool Bill Jacobs Naperville

That’s interesting I bought my X5 at Bill Jacobs Naperville about two weeks ago and had a pleasant sales experience. Mike Alder the internet sales manager was excellent to deal with. He was responsive and knowledgeable.

I just hope that the service department provides the same level of care.
