Truth on leather care

Had a quick scan on forums and seems the general consensus is not to use leather care products on car seats that you would use on say a leather sofa at home...still trying to get my head round why? I emptied 5 buckets of grimy water after giving me seats a good clean today, and was looking at using the armor all gel that i always used but its out of stock, so wondering is there any harm with a normal leather care product as mentioned above e.g one for sofas etc?
