Car wash 1st time ?s

OK, my X5 is pretty dirty. THe last time it was claned was by the dealer when I gave it in for cd install. I want to get it washed. I know that brushless is bad for the paint. How about w/brushes like at Exxon and stuff, are those good. Or how about hand washes, but I also heard their rags damage paint job. If non of these are good, Ill wash it myself, what do I need? I have a power washer too..., but will that hurt the paint...?
