Nov Detail RR Sport Supercharger Black

A detail that I did today RR Sport Supercharged , exterior and engine only. Sorry about the after shots a bit of overcast towards the end of the day.

This car had light scratches, marks, tons of dirt, machine and hand car wash marks, as well as some swirls from other detailers wheeling the car.

Process:

1. Wet down the engine, spritzed it with P21S Auto Wash, Brushed with Boars Hair Wheel Brush, Sprayed down the engine till clean, closed the hood. Moved on to

2. Wet down the wheels and tires Cleaned the wheels with P21S Wheel Cleaner Gel Formula, used wheel brushes and Schmitt Black Pad for wheels, cleaned the tires with P21S Auto Wash.

3. Washed the car with Adam's Car Wash and Schmitt White pad for washes

4. Dried car with MF Waffle Weave Towel

5. Clayed car with Adam's Clay Bar and Detail Spray for Lube

6. Went back to the engine and dressed it with Adam's VRT and In and Out.

7. Dressed the tires with Adam's VRT, dressed the wheel wells with Optimum Dressing.

8. Used Optimum Polish with Green Waffle Pad (cutting pad) on a Rotary/Hi Speed on 1000 RPM's

9. Stepped back the pad to a polishing pad (blue waffle) with Optimum Polish

10. Used PC with Black pad with Butter Wax on 3

11. Wiped down the door jambs.

12. Cleaned the interior/exterior glass

13. Final wipe down with Adam's Detail Spray

Total time 3 hours and 10 minutes.

The final results were impressive and paint was corrected 80%-90%, some scratches remained but would have required a few more hours, light wet sanding, and compounding.

Here are the pics:

I really appreciate you listing the process. It will become very helpful for those that need to have a system... such as myself. It is also good to know what products to use where.

Couple of questions (I own a 4.8is in Lemans Blue/Black with stock 20s)....
1) what is schmitt white pad and black pad? Any pictures? I can't find them on google.

2) Boars head wheel brush... the problem I have is everytime I go to the store there are about 20 different brushes of different sizes and lengths etc. Any pictures of the brushes so I can get reference to size and shape etc.

3) I see you use Adams quite a bit. Did you buy one of the "kits" off of the Adams website?

4) the list above that you created is for a detailed cleaning event. for your own car, how often does such a cleaning take place?

5) what is the process for routine upkeep of a car. Could you list it out like you did above with the appropriate products to use... considering my truck is Lemans Blue.

I would like to start somewhere (just bought Pinnacle interior care kit last week). I have nothing but old towels from the house that I use to use on the '04 Range Rover (still have it) to clean it. that and dish soap. Probably the worst 2 things in the world to use on a vehicle but that is what I knew. Now I am looking for education. Everywhere I go the push their own products without true representation as to which one is easier to use or gives better results to than the other etc. I have looked at Zaino, Pinnacle and Meguires and now Adams and still not sure which one to choose. I know I got to start somewhere and some guideance is necessary.

Curtis,

Thanks! YGM.

1. Here is a link to the Schmitt wash pads:

http://dedicationtodetail.com/shmitt.html

2. This is the Boars Hair Wheel Brush I use:
http://www.adamspolishes.com/site/pr...86578F1F042C39

3. This is the kit I initially bought from Adam's:
http://www.adamspolishes.com/site/pr...CCDF7D520357EA

4. This was a customer's RR, after something like this I would suggest a weekly wash and a monthly coat of wax or sealant.

5. My upkeep on my X5 and other cars would be to wash as often as I can and a coat of wax every 3-4 weeks. As for the interior a quick vacuum and a wipe down of the dash (every other wash is what I do) and cleaning the windows often will help keep your X5 and RR clean enough to prevent it from getting to the point of this RR Sport.

I hope this helps you.

Phil

Did you find the RR clear to be easy to correct? I worked on an SEMA LR3 and although it looked like I would need the rotory to correct, a PC and a polishing pad took care of it.

joyriide1113,

The rotary was the way to go on this one there were tons of scratches and wheel marks on it. So I think the rotary was a better choice as well the customer wanted the RR back in 3 hours...so I was hustling to get it done.

Nice job. I need to get my X detailed before the rainy LA winter starts. I doubt I'll do it myself (actually prefer to have someone else do it), but I admire how you can take so much, time, attention and care to do things right. The pride you have in your work is commendable.

pyiu,
Wow!

Wish I was you neighbor, just so I could come over and
"watch" the Maestro and get some tips.

One could eat off that engine bay...
Outstanding, as is all your detail work.

Thanks guys I've been doing this for fun and on the side since my dad got his first MB in 1987, I think I was 12, and I was getting my mom to go to Kmart with me to pick up everything I could to keep my dad's car clean....

Anyway I can happily say that now I'm doing it for myself as well as a few of my customers. Love it! Its a great stress reliever and I love watching the customers face when its done.

Thanks guys!
