New X5 - What wax??
Getting ready to pick up my new X5 from the Spartanburg plant and want to immediately wax the vehicle for obvious reasons. Can anyone recommend a product that will not take multiple steps but still do an acceptable job?? The color of the new X5 is titanium silver. Thanks in anticpation of your responses! T.D. |

Well, you might as well have started a thread about politics, abortion, religion and/or gun control, everyone will have just as emphatic opinions on what wax to use as those!
my .02 is Mequiars NXT wax and car wash *waits patiently for the Zaino proponents to chime in

I have used NXT on my black X5 with great quick results. Will be doing the Zaino routine later this month and will post the results. Also check this post for hayaku's expeirence with Menzerna who i beleive has used Zaino in the past.

first things first... clay the car and remove all particles stuck to your car.
second, fix the imperfections in the clear coat (swirls, scratches, etc) then third, wax or seal it with your perference... shine comes from clarity of the paint, not the wax (in fact wax doesn't give any shine, even if its zaino)... my choices in products: - dawn wash to remove all waxes from the dealer - claymagic clay bar to remove small particles - 1z or Menzerna polishes to fix the clear coat using a porter cable with various pads - klasse all-in-one and sealant or - p21s carnuba wax |

my dealership did a good job on detailing the X5, so i don't have to do it, yet, but i prefer the meguiars products.
here's a pic of my RR (that i traded in for my X5) after detailing it. more pics here: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/sho...&threadid=2325 |

"Best??? Well I use Meguiars Swirl Remover as a polish and Professional High Tech Yellow for wax. That being said the difference maker is the Porter Cable Orbital Sander. I can not recommend it enough! It does it better, faster and easier that hand waxing."... BEST CAR WAX THREAD

cures. The dealer should take care of paint prep when your X arrives. That will put you about 6 months into ownership before your first wax job. If you decide to go ahead here's what many dealerships use even though they advertise other products in their showroom. http://www.nvo.com/prodcarcare/door/

Vehicle has been baked from the factory so waxing right away is not a issue.
Wax is subjective but I suggest a light clay of the car, and then a mild polish if there are any swirl marks. While I love the look of traditional *nuba waxes , it's not something that I would use for a daily driver. Mine is outdoors 24/7 daily driver - so Zaino is what I use. It lasts + lasts + last easily for 6 months if not more. Depth is a not as nice as caranuba , it's very reflective BUT the stuff does last as advertised . Now if the car was garaged and used only on the weekends, I would use a nice caranuba like Meguiars #16 or Souveran. Determine what your *protective needs are* and then wax away |
