Road Salt Removal from Carpets

Lacking a heated garage, my current detail efforts involve waiting for a warm winters day, giving her a quick wash and vacuum. However I have noticed the build up of road salt on my formerly black carpets. I try as hard as I can to scrape it with the vacuum, but I know in the spring I am going to have a job getting it all up. Does anyone have any tricks for getting this out without soaking the carpet with water and shampoo?

I dont know what else you can do besides a little water. but what i would suggest is to get a good pair of all season BMW Mats for the winter!

I do!

I do, but what happens when you put your foot on the gas petal is that it drips off your shoe or boot and under that area that the mats don't cover.

ohh i see. they also have all weather liners if youre interested in more protection.

as for the salt, i would say get a wet rag and try to pull it up-the carpet wont get very wet.. I also always try to avoid chemicals until i really need them.

Check out some Adam's polishes carpet and upholstery cleaner. I have used it numerous times on my black mats and they come out perfect. It is a salt based formula, not very chemically, very mild but works great. I even use it on my living room couch.
