just tried Griot's new Heavy-Duty Wheel Cleaner for the first time. I've never used Sonax so I can't compare them directly, but Griot's seems to have copied their color-changing formula trick. it definitely has a stronger yet still pleasant odor compared to Griot's standard Wheel Cleaner, but at $16.99 for 35oz it's $7 more than the standard stuff.
brake dust has never been a huge problem since I try to clean my wheels at least every other week, so the standard Wheel Cleaner usually does the trick pretty well. also I like to get in there with a brush or mitt and get the back of the spokes and wheel barrels. I think I'll save the Heavy-Duty stuff for winter time when I can't clean the wheels as often and it's too cold to get wet washing them by hand. until then, I'll stick with the standard stuff. for being run year-round for over a decade, I think they still look pretty damn good!

Just got 3 new bottles of Sonax, the scent changed, now it smells like hell. Reminds me of a dirty barn....ehh
Still works perfectly though, would not use anything else.

my first gal jug of sonax stunk really badly. on my second and third it seems like they added a soapy scent to it. Not as bad, but still smells like someone is getting a perm

I'm finishing up my Adam's (and it's worked OK) but I have Sonax purchased and ready.
It's very tough to know which of these cleaners are damaging to the paint though. It's obviously far easier to tell which clean the wheels. Maybe the one that requires you to work harder to get the wheels clean is gentler on the paint? |

i do think that the cheaper wheel cleaners bought at autozone, etc are harmful though. The amount of R&D put into Sonax with pH neutral properties keeps me comfortable. P21S was also a good one--not as powerful, but definitely good.

Black Magic makes a pH wheel cleaner--I use their tire foam as well--those and Armor All (for exterior moldings) are the only "store-bought" products I will buy.
