I don't think it's redundant. Do you think the M3's "M' decals on the 2 fender grills and all 4 rims are redundant and should be removed too?

J/K with you. Afterall, that's why we personalize our vehicles, to reflect what we like.
By the way, the etching does not get dirty. Actually, the area around the rubber nibblets gets a little dirty but that's also true for the OEM running boards.
