BMW doesnt make an Aux input for your car. They make one for cars produced after 10/2002.

Yes you could. If you got a radio from a car produced after 10 of 2002 it would work.

Note that you will need adapter cables to install a radio module from a newer X5 into a 2001, as they changed from a round pin connector design to a flat pin design. I did this in my 2001 and it works fine.
