Any update on whether this cradle (Part Number: 84212151038) works in the older eject boxes?

My thoughts:
Looking at the pictures & videos floating around, the connector on the underside of the cradle looks identical to the connector on the underside of the cradle for my old Nokia 6230i. This makes me think it would work on the older cars (E46) with the bluetooth phone integration AND on newer cars (my 120d) as the Nokia cradle works fine on both.

And connects to antenna I assume?

Is that the iPhone 3G that you have?

yep 16G 3G model, and yes I do believe it links to the external antenna.

I can confirm that the above cradle works on a 2007 iDrive vehicle and a 2001 E46 M3.

The iPhone charges properly and it uses the external aerial.

I have it and it charges and uses the external audio. They should allow the iPod to be used through the cradle. I have my iPhone switching between the Y cable and the cradle which is a hassle.

I think you mean 'external aerial' don't you?

As far as accessing the music on the iPhone, you'll need the smartphone integration (on newer models) & a different cradle for that.

I have a dedicated iPod for the car for music, particularly as the iPhone is incapable of storing my entire music collection. I leave this iPod permanently connected to the car, only removing it to update it occasionally.

Regards,

Paul

Yah I meant external antenna. I have an iPod and an iPhone for the same reason, but it would still be nice to be able to play the music through the iPhone if its plugged in. I have the latest iPhone adaptor as well as smartphone integration can't seem to get it to work.

I think the above posts may have answered my questions but I want to double check. I want to be able to use my iPhone 3G in my 2009 X5 diesel. I see that there is an iPhone "Snap-In" adapter. That will allow me to charge my phone and use the external antenna? But not the ipod functions through the idrive? And I can buy the separate Ipod/USB cable to listen to the iPhone or another ipod? It seems weird that the iPhone adapter doesn't allow you to use the ipod function. I mean, all iphones also work as an ipod. In any case, what parts do I need, and what (briefly) does it take to install.

My car should be at my dealer later this week. I have been asking them and emailing them about these exact questions and even as of today, they didn't have any answers! For example, they had no idea whether the iphone connector (snap-in) would use the cars antenna. They just blew me off by saying "don't worry, you'll be able to play your ipod through the stereo. But we will look into the stuff about the phone". I guess I just expected a LOT more technical knowledge from an experienced BMW dealership. This is my first experience buying a BMW and from the comments here, they are really not all very tech aware.

Thanks for any info,
Dave.
