Question K&N Air Filter; Better than stock???

Just replaced my factory air filter with a K&N, and I wonder if anyone else has done such a swap.

I've noticed the sound and acceleration seems a bit more "raw," almost as if my car isn't liking the swap.

I definitely installed it correctly, and it fits well within the factory air box, but I read that pre-oiled filters (such as the K&N) cam sometimes damage parts within the engine.

I did notice, however, that my average gas mileage (03 4.4) has jumped from 15 mpg, to 17.5 mpg (everyday city/highway driving).

This is a good sign I'm sure, but back to the sound and acceleration feel, it isn't so "tight" anymore.

Any insight??

Thanks!

Searched and read some info. I think I wasted my money, and wonder if i should just get a new stock paper filter.

Would rather waste the $40 and throw the K&N filter in the garbage, than cause more expensive issues within the engine down the road.

Hmmmm....

Just use it until it's time to be changed and then go back to the original one.

It is a bunch of bull. There really isn't any difference except that the OEM filter actually filters better and that the oil on the K&N filter has been known to cause issues.

If you ar einterested in long term cost, AFE offers a dry replacement filter than can be reused. Not sure how it comapres are far as actual filtration is concerned.

Great marketing by K&N, I usually avoid the hype. K&N has been beating into our brain "better fuel economy/more horsepower/the best filter in the world/blahblahblahblah" ever since i was able to even drive a car. Imagine? Hats off they got my $40 lol!

Kand N

Have not used in X3, do know from my Corvette forum the oil can mess up the mass air flow sensor, thinking that oil sucked into your intake is probably not a good thing.
