Yup, you need Star spoke - style 99's, they were made for the 4.6/4.8 specifically!

Awesome! Thank you... now where might I find these Style 99's?

Also - is there anybody out there who would like these style 131's I have...I think that is the correct number... but they are from the facelifted X5 4.4 stock.

Thanks!
-Josh

Josh, You can list the style 131 in SAV items for sale forum. Style 99 is usually only found with dealer(not a popular wheel) at prices you don't want to hear. You can also try ebay if someone got tired of them. If you like mine you can have them at a deal.

reply for winter set up

Well today my X was in for new brakes all around, the dealership calls me and says "we have a problem"... "your front brake calipers are hitting your rims now that you have the new brake pads!!!".

So I load up the two from OEM 20's in the loaner... somebody must have been watching over me because I was in a 325 wagon.

Anyway, sure enough the calipers hit the rims now... bad. My question to everybody is: #1 does anybody know for SURE if a 4.8 can take 18" rims of any style? and #2 does anybody was a slightly used set of OEM 4.4 style rims and tires?

(by the way they ARE OEM, and I bought them Brand new with Brand New Michelin Tires)

Thanks folks!
-Josh
Let me know if you are in the market for a set up

Question conflicting info?

Sorry if I'm behind the curve on this but it looks like I'm hearing two things in this thread which seem to conflict:

1) 18" OEM's will fit with the 4.8is calipers as long as spacers are used to provide the proper offset (?)
2) Only SOME 18" OEM's will fit, and some will not, and there's nothing that can be done with the ones that can not...which is why jobaker4 is going to have to sell his 18" snow set up now that he got his brakes done

Which is the most accurate, or are they both true at times?

Reason I ask is that I'm currently bidding on 2005 4.8is's through a broker at dealer auctions and since I want to be able to hit the snow right away as soon as I land one, I bought a set on eBay of four brand new OEM 18's with brand new tires that were taken off a new X5 (2007 I believe) b/c the buyer upgraded to 20's before taking delivery. The reason I bought 18's was b/c I read the same thread that jobaker4 read about needing 18's to fit over the larger calipers on the 4.6 and 4.8 models and now I'm hoping that I didn't buy the wrong wheels. I'm not sure what Style the rims are b/c they're fairly new and I'm not familiar all the new styles yet, but here's a pic, hopefully they're deep enough as is, or I could add spacers to give the right offset (?)

As a side note: One of the members told me he used 40mm spacers on the rear wheels when he switched to 18's for the winter on his 4.8 to fill out the wheel wells, but that he might do 50mm if he had to do it over again. I'd like to figure out the spacer size for the fronts so I can preorder them and save time. Thanks for your help

For your sake I hope I'm wrong but I don't think E70 wheels fit on an E53. I wanted to go the other way and use the stock 18s from my '05 4.4i as a winter set up on my '08 4.8i and the guys here said they wouldn't fit.

Good luck!

Actually I think they're interchangeable, provided the rims do clear the brake calipers. Have you try to install those winters on your new X? The only issue here is maybe the brakes on your new, smoking-hot 4.8i are larger than the old 4.4i and therefore the 18's won't clear them.

Ok, back to more reading.....

Nope, dad now has a brand new set of Pirellis and I have stock 18 inch rims collecting dust.

Hijack over.

Signed,

Misinformation. I try...

We don't have any cross references for OE wheels, so I'm of no use here I'm afraid
