Ok, back to more reading.....
E53 wheels do not fit E70. Different bore size.

Which means E70 wheels (which the ones I just bought on eBay most likely are) will not fit on an E53. ARGH!

Of course the Sellers Ad said "Fits All X-Class" so now I have to resell them or try to get my money back somehow... Double ARGH!

Oh well, whatayagonnado? Live and learn I s'pose...

I can't believe they make different bore sizes for the E53 and E70. Thanks for the correction.

I have a set of 20s(4.6is style, they are reps, but the Italian ones) mounted with 275/40 snows at all four corners.

Anyone want to trade for 18s + cash??? My X5 is a 06 4.8is. Im giving the X5 to my wife soon, and she prefers the softer ride on the 18s.

Question E70 rims should fit an E53 with Hub Centric Rings? & 18's fit the 4.8is with spacers

I've been talking to tire guys and wheel shops now that I have learned that the set of OEM 18s from an E70 I bought won't fit an E53 and if what I'm reading is correct, the E70's have a slightly larger bore size, and this can be corrected with hub centric rings? Is that correct? If yes, that's not nearly as bad as what I had thought before, after reading that they simply "won't fit."

There also seems to be a fairly straightforward workaround for 18's not fitting the larger brake calipers on the 4.6 and 4.8. It seems that with the proper offset spacers (and therefore perhaps longer posts) the rim will clear the calipers and the 18's will be usable? The guy at the wheel shop said this is most often the case.

Am I getting this right?

Side Note: I called the local BMW dealership and the parts guy said he had no idea, and no way of looking up, the actual bore sizes of the two different OEM wheels (E53 and E70) and he suggested I try a BMW message board... go figure!

If the center bore is small , you can always take em to a machine shop to widen the bore. If the Bore is big and loose , you will need centering rings for the perfect fit.

The wheel shop guys said I could go that route as well, and the only hitch is that it's around $100 per wheel at a good shop where they know what they're doing and do it well.

What I'm trying to find out now is "Are the E70 hubs bigger or smaller than the E53 hubs" and so far it sounds like they are bigger, but I can't get verification yet...
