Who else thinks the OEM MXV4's suck?
In Nebraska we have a fair amount of rain and snow. I have had four cars with Michelin MXV4's and each one had problems gripping in wet conditions. My X5 is better than the others (Saab, VW) by nature of the all-wheel drive. I am looking at an 04 and, of course, it has brand new MXV4's.
Anyone agree that these tires suck? Should I pull off brand new tires and replace them?

I had no problem in my wife's 2005 X5 with those 18" at 80mph in heavy rain, not much braking needed though.
I would have felt much better in my 2001 X5 with 19" staggered Pirelli scorpion ZERO assimetrico's...great tire for the money!and snow rated unlike the 4x4 diamaris. |

We had some prob. climbing our Mtn road in snow, (17s w/snows
cured that), but I really liked our oem 18" Michey MXVs. Still have the wheel set and orig tires; they wore like iron, evenly and worked well, imo. Stuck like glue in wet, on our '01. Diff'n strokes or conditions or... GL,mD

I had them on Xena I and II and was happy with them in pretty much all conditions including snow. I was also impressed at their longevity - Xena I did nearly 40,000 miles on a set.

The most redeeming quality is that they last a long time. But having driven a car with Blizzaks in the winter has spoiled me for better performance. I drove during a heavy snow storm when I first got my X and was sliding more than I should have been. We have a set of Continental's on my wife's ride and that thing cannot be stopped in snow.
