Thumbs up Tire Protection

My brother got a double hit the other night. He was driving home, saw a huge pot hole, swerved to avoid it but caught the edge. He immediately got the flat tire warning. His front was blown completely and the rear, although not flat, had the golf ball bulge in the side wall. This is the second time he has had a blow out. Tire rack shows his tires at $503 each for the front and $455 each for the rears. His previous blow out was a front. Had he not purchased the tire protection it would have cost him just shy of $1500 so far. He picked up the B7 in May of '08.

Walking out of the dealer with 2 brand new tires and $0 out of pocket...PREICELESS.

I know our tires aren't as expensive or as susceptible to blow outs but it sure makes a case for getting the protection. He was covered no questions asked.

Glad it worked out for him. Does this protection carry over to the new replacement tires as well?

I'm assuming yes. This is the second time for the front tire.

Yeah, for expensive wheels/tires a tire protection is a must. It paid for itself when I got a nail puncture on the rear M5 tire, got a new tire installed/balanced days later. I think it even covers the wheel replacement if damaged....

Yes, his wheels are covered too, they're a few thousand a pop. There was another B7 there when he picked his up yesterday. They guy hit a median and wrecked both wheels and tires on one side....no tire protection. I'm guessing that's a $8K+ job. He said the car was a pig, all dinged and dirty. I don't get why someone would spend that kind of money on a car and trash it. He must have been born with bucks.

I've never considered tire / wheel insurance before but I can see the value. Any idea of costs?

I got it too. I think it was about $795. I have to check the paperwork, I'll let you know when I get to the office.

$795 for the 2 year term of my lease. There are a few different coverage options. The one I have is the wheel elite which covers up to $600 per tire and $1200 per wheel. It specifically states the tires and wheels that were on the X when I took delivery.

Thanks - how's it work after the tire reaches the end of useful life due to tread depth?

I forget the exact tread depth but the paperword did state that once the treads reach X the tires were not covered.
