Brakes and 22" wheels on an X5

Is there anyone on this board that has had 22" wheels fitted onto their x5 and experienced exactly the same brake wear as they did when they had the factory wheels on? Please chime in, I'm curious to know.

I'd have thought it would make no difference. The same forces would be needed to stop the vehicle regardless of tyre size.

Its not the tire size thats making the difference....Its the added weight of the larger wheel.

For instance, the original factory wheel weighs 35lbs with tire inflated. The 22" wheels i'm running weigh 55lbs with tire inflated. The added rotational mass is putting more strain on the braking and suspension components in comaprison to the OEM wheel.

Think you answered your own question, yes, nearly doubling the unsprung weight will effect brake distance, wear of the pads and life of the brakes. Added wheel weight is the equivalent off adding mass at the worst possible point. That is why you want lighter aftermarket wheels, not insanely heavier ones. Going from 35-55lbs is crazy, you've added 80lbs in wheel mass to the car, why?

If I could find a 22" wheel that weighed less than OEM wheels, was still safe to roll on, and didn't cost me an arm, leg, and kidney, consider me sold.
