toyos or replica rims causing vibration?

I have another thread in the E70 forum here describing this problem not realizing there's a dedicated section for this. I'm at my wit's end with this problem for over a year now.

I've spoken to the replica rims seller (wheelsandcaps) and he thinks either they didn't do the road force properly or my set of Toyo Proxes STs (at least 1) are simply bad. Anyone have such problems with their Toyos vibrating at 60mph-80mph? Other people on other forums are also saying bad tires can cause this. I've found people talking about their Toyo Proxes 4s (passenger vehicle version) having vibration. I'm reading that Toyo has a warranty that I can take advantage of - wonder if I have to prove it's the tires and not the rims. Anyway, looking for other people here with similar experiences with the vibration with their Toyos. Or if the experienced folks here think it's the rep rims even though they are supposedly spinning fine on the machine.

toyos or replica rims causing vibration?

I recently purchased Toyo Proxes ST ll's and rep 168 for my "05" X5. I had the tires mounted on the wheels at my local BMW dealership in the Chicago area. It took these idiots 3-times to have the tires balanced properly. And I was having vibration issues from 45 to approx. 65. Now it is as smooth as silk, and I recently had it up to approx. 125, and still very smooth.

They actually had to rotate the tires on the wheels a bit to balance properly. Hopefully you will find a mechanic that knows what the hell he is doing to resolve.

By the way, the new Proxes ST ll's are much better than the old Proxes ST's.

Good luck!

yeah, make sure you go to an installer with a newer hunter balance machine. it's not uncommon to need to unseat, rotate and re-seat the tire onto the rim to balance out the high and low spots of the tire/wheel combo.

Is it possible to compensate for every tire like that though? What if I truly have a bad tire? 2 things right now... 1) they dinged my rim a bit in the process... even though I have lifetime roadforce from them, I don't know how many times I want them to go through with this. 2) I already spent $130 at this shop... I don't want to spend another $130 at another. I may if they don't have a hunter machine (which I am going to verify - but the hunter site identified them as having it). All I saw on the machine (through a window from a distance) was the word laser and it was black, not red like this but it did have the same black hood. Are there a lot of other brands that are inferior? I will also make sure they are re-seating the tire instead of just adding weights like a non-road-force shop would.

I have an appt with the dealer next Thursday to try and identify if it could be something else (along with my axle creaking up & down driveways). I guess I'll go after that. I just know they're going to make me balance with them to even look into the problem.

Can you give me details? Their site wouldn't really downsell the old one by comparing the two. Some places are still selling the old one.

Do you have another set of wheels and tires? Switch them out to confirm it's a wheel/tire issue. Then switch them back one at a time to see which wheel(s) is causing the problem. Then remount and balance the offending wheel(s) somewhere reputable.

does their balancer have a roller on the back side of it? this should be the roadforce part of the balancer, which will push on the tire to simulate a vehicle load.
