Diamari Replacement
It's that magical time for my X5 when I get to rid myself of my Diamari's. They have put up a good fight and lasted 20,000 miles and probably have another 5k in them since they are at 6/32". Anyway, i'm going to replace them within a month or so since I am going to be going on a skiing trip in the X and don't want to die while driving on the Diamari's. I have done extensive searching on the site for tires, but most searches come up with people wanting a Winter Specific tire and I think that would be over kill for my X5's needs. Here are my details: 2006 X5 4.4i Sport 285 on the 19's Rear 255 on the 19's Front I live in San Diego, CA so a Pure Winter tire is not needed I like to go skiing up at Big Bear or Mammoth Lakes so a tire that could handle 6" of snow would be nice. I drive to Houston and back 2-3 times a year so a tire that DOESN'T hydro plane like the Diamari's would be nice. What would you suggest? A snow tire would be over kill and another summer performance tire would be good for the rain and snow... I've heard the Michelin Latitude Tour HP's are good in the rain. How about the "light" snow? I am in the exact same position myself. I have the staggered 19's and am looking for an all season for snowboarding trips. Funny enough mammoth and big bear are mtns I go to as well. It seems like its between the Michelin Latitude HP Tours or the Pirelli all season that is up on tirerack. My dream tire would be the Continental DWS but as you probably know that is not made in our size. I will be curious to see what you decide. I think with the options available the Michelin might be the best choice.

In the case of my example, that combination should yield the same tire diameter of 28.6" if my memory serves me correctly. For example, the stock 4.8 staggered tires are 275/40-20 & 315/35-20 but I use 265/45-20 & 295/40-20 now. I use this combination because I use aftermarket wheels that are 20" but not as wide as the stock. The important thing is that the tires have the same overall diameter. Now going lower profile will compromise ride comfort and your speedo will not be as accurate too. You'll have to decide what you're willing to accept.

Diamaris replacement too
Hey all,
I'm looking to replace my OE tires, I own an '04 E53, 4.8is. The rear tires are about to their limit and looking for something similar in performance, and maybe a little bit more quiet. Those Michelin Diamaris are pretty awesome to look at but slightly loud on the highway. I've done a few searches and heard a few people talking about the Vredestein Sessanta are a pretty nice set. I live in Northern CA and aside from the rare trips to Tahoe, I don't plan on doing much of snow driving. In any case, what are you guys recommending out there? What's the most bang for your bucks? What are you impressing on Michelin Lattitude, Toyo proxes etc.. Any feedback would be gladly appreciated.
