Whistle Latest mod on the E46 M3

Last year, Terry aka TLP from M3 Forums figured out how to retrofit the M5/M6 SMG shift knob on a E46 M3 SMG. The shift knob that comes with the M3 SMG really looks like it belongs on a toy car IMHO. Nevertheless, the M5/M6 shift knob also is illuminated.

TLP's original post with info re: connectors, etc.

Vrooom's post with more detailed instructions:

Anyhow, finally did it this past week.....

I was able to take apart the stick shift knob off and remove the housing (very easy to do, just don't try to hit yourself in the face when removing the shift knob). I had a friend with better mechanical skills to glue the plastic ring at the base of the leather boot on M5 Shift knob and he helped with putting in clean T-taps on the +12V and ground wires from the SMG speedshift selector switch.

Really no different from hardwiring the V1 in the BMW.

Thanks for the compliment.

Next mod is DICE or IceLink Plus.....(I need more time from work)

In the U.S., only the E46 M3 Coupe and Cabriolet had the option of Cinnamon leather. Just to let you know, we got Carbon Black as the exterior color.

Thanks for the compliment. I know Joe@Crevier got another Carbon Black X5 to replace the one that was totaled.

I think someone in Europe did get a Carbon Black X5 with cinnamon interior.
