Are the 1-series out in the US?

Last Friday, I was driving by my office when I saw a 4-door/hatchback 1-series driving the opposite direction. I couldn't see the license plate....It was a gray one....maybe they are testing it for the U.S. You couldn't miss the 1-series since we all have seen it in the magazines.

Just curious....

There was on spied in the bay area recently as well (sydney blue).

The 1 series in its current form won't be coming to the U.S., but the 2 series will.

The are probably driving around 1 series mules because the E87 chassis will underpin the 2 series coupe & cabrio which will be out on this side of the pond in 2008. This way they can test how the chassis performs on american roads without actually having to transport mules and attract unnecessary attention to early on. (I imagine closer to launch that they actually will bring 2 series mules over here).

Quicksilver will become famous soon enough
A 1 series Diesel in the USA would be an instant hit.

I'm not so sure. Europeans love small cars. I think the 1 series would be ridiculed here for its small size and high price tag.

I dunno if you've ever seen a 1 series in the flesh, but the rear seats are practically useless...

I dont know. People said the same things about the Audi A3 and it seems to be selling well. I see them all over the place.
