welcome to last year... btw.. they limit the power in 1st and 2nd gear on the manual. It's slower than the SMG in tests by quite a bit.. BMWNA screwed up big time..

BMW is acting as if the M5 is the core product and they f*ed up big time. I don't understand why they went out of their way to make a very small demanding group of people happy...and really, it's not like they are selling many fewer M5s bc of a lack of a manual trans.

WTF. I didnt know that. where did you hear that from and is it confirmed? I assume they limit the power in first and second gear to increase drive train life. Why else would they do it? That is bullshit. Im sure a tuner will come out with something soon to bypass that just like they bypass the top speed limiter

I agree. Garanteed they sell alot more smgs than the do 6 speeds.

I think BMW was eating to many M5 motor tear downs for carbon build up on the E39 M5's so they are not going to CPO any of the new ones. I use to have a link about the problem, the only solution was to take the heads off, 12k job at the dealer if it was "customer pay". I was going to get a 03 E39 M5 till I read about that. It's not a problem you can ignore in Calif. because it triggers the SES and you will not pass smog.

90% of those problems were due to people not driving it. It's more prominent with low mileage motors.

I gotta join up on that sight. Ive been checking out m3post.com lately though. Do you know of a better m3 website. The info on that one doesnt seem credible. They are saying the new M3 will have 450hp and 9000 redline. Thats against everything ive heard elsewhere. I heard 415 to 425hp with redline just under 8500

I dont think cpo or the ori oem warranty covered carbon build up anyway on the E39. Ive never had the problem on mine. But I usually drive pretty hard in high Rpms which i think helps. I think most of the problems come from guys that drive there M5s like a Taurus and never break 80mph or 3500k rpm.
