Hijack...sort of...but how can five states have 85% of the BMW market? Texas and Florida aren't in top five?

I don't understand why Benz and BMW are going down the SCR route. We simply don't have the infrastructure to support it. We do not have urea stations at the gas station like they do in Europe. When much larger diesels made by companies like MAN and Scania are able to use EGR for Euro 5 emissions, why can't BMW? I hope they're adopting the next-gen injector-systems that Audi/VW are using which are capable of much higher pressures.

wait, so when you would go to the gas station you would have to get diesel and urea? - so you would have to fill up 2 tanks? whats the point in that?

That's quite simple to answer.... BMW doesn't make BIG trucks... if you're in TX, you're buying a super duty F150 or you're going home. BMW /= Cadillac.... lots o retirement folks in FL that want their Cadi's and Lincolns.

Urea injection doesn't really use a tank like the diesel, it is more similar to a windshield washer reservoir. There will be sensors to ensure that if owners let it go dry (and thus pollute) that the vehicle disables itself with an engine code. Mercedes has used a replaceable canister instead of a reservoir, with the same net effect. There are a lot of questions as to how this will work in the real world, and that is what has delayed the introduction of the diesel BMWs. It appears that they are moving off the fence, but slowly, if only the 5 series range is getting diesels to start.

You guys are too funny! Having lived in Europe I have never seen a Urea pump next to a diesel pump. I have seen the odd cow so maybe you have to pump it yourself!
