335i oil temp rant on bimmerforums

from another poster on bimmerforums, this is great sometimes people just need a good kick in the pants LOL!

The whole oil temp issue

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I have been digging around and looking at all these temperature posts and some of you people make me laugh. First off, the people who "will not drive their car until BMW does a recall" get a life. You have this thing called a warranty. If anything happens, not only will BMW fix it, they will even give you a car to drive WHILE it is being fixed. As for the people who won’t buy until it is fixed, please go buy a Volvo. There are enough whiny people who drive these cars as is, you will fit in a Volvo much better.

I have a simple solution to this whole fiasco. Seeing as most of the people who are pissing themselves over this are the same ones that still change their oil every 3000 miles, go buy the extended warranty. It will cost you @ 1500 bucks and cover you to 100000 miles. To offset the price, change the oil as the FACTORY recommends. That will save you @ 27 oil changes at what? 100 bucks a pop? I have not paid for an oil change in 15 years so am clueless of the cost.

I also know exactly why BMW has not addressed your concern. After extensive meetings with leading automotive engineers they have decided that there is no concern. They have however realized that a bunch of idiots are convinced there is a problem. Now they will move the dial more to the middle so no more idiots waste their time with stupid questions.

seriously. Most of you do not even realize its an OIL TEMP gauge. Do you know oil does almost nothing until it reaches almost 180 degrees? Do you know synthetic oil does not change properties until it reaches over 400 degrees for a prolonged period? Do you actually think BMW would let a problem go unanswered that could potentially cost them many millions of dollars? Do you actually think you are smarter then the people who designed and built thee motors? If your oil reaching 240 degrees sets you into a panic, go get a Volvo. Maybe you can find one with no gauges at all, so you have no clue and can live in abject stupidity for many miles of motoring....
