info on the 2007 335i Coupe

Hey All,

Didn't want to go visit another board and I know many of you in the lounge can help me with some details..

I have a friend who is looking for his next car (figure around $45,000)..
I think we have helped him narrow his decision to one of two vehicles, a E46 M3 or the new 2007 335i coupe.

Can someone please tell me,
1) How readily available are the 335i Coupe's right now?
2) Are dealers asking premium's? Are they getting them?
3) How good/bad are the lease deals now through BMW? (is the money factor high because it's a new model and they know people are willing to pay it?)

Thanks,
B

The supply for 335i coupes is short, demand is high. There may even be a waiting list. However, I doubt you'll pay a premium "over" the suggested price. However, you may be stuck with MSRP.

M3 and 335i are quite different though, despite their similarities in straight-line acceleration. Check your (or your friend's) priorities.

I was told when we picked up the X3 that you can't get a 335i or 328i vert till october. I assume coupe demand is lower, so you still will have to wait.
If you are only concerned about price, E46 will cost less. It's an older model, and you can't get one new off the lot.
As Matt said, they are two different vehicles, the E46 and the E92, so they should get the model they like best.

$45k will barely get you a 335i coupe and unless you get very lucky, you won't get one till MY08
comes out. there maybe some 328i coupes around and if you haven't driven one, its pretty good. But... its no 335i
unless you do ED, many people are still paying around MSRP and very few get anywhere near invoice (they're probably lying if someone tells you they got a really good deal). most dealer's sticker price includes a premium disguised as all kinds of friviolous fees. yes everything is negotiable but there's not enough supply right now for dealers to make any good deals.

Definitely tell your friend to go for a 335i coupe instead of an E46 M3. It's almost as fast, but the whole car is just much newer. It drives very well.. Great steering, smooth power.. The ride is hard, but not jarring. The automatic with shift paddles is great. Very quick and smooth. My dealer actually gave me a great deal on mine. MSRP was about $50,500 but we paid about $43,000 for it, with the trade included. I was very surprised.

From what I hear all 2007 335i coupe are sold out in US. You may be able to get at premium though but not at 45k. Your freind is probabaly better off with 2008 as there is facelift coming in fall with new options like BER and few others. But great car anyway.

Guys,

Thanks for the response, we happened to stop into the BMW dealership tonight right after I made that post.

The coupe's are hard to come by, you're very correct. But we happened to be walking on the lot and noticed a 335i coupe that was in for service parked right next to a E46 M3..
CJ, I love your car, so don't be mad at me for saying this, but imho, the E46 M3 is a much better looking example of a BMW. Granted I am comparing a ///M car to a non M, and the 335i didn't seem to have the sideskirts or any other extra body kit..
But apples to oranges, the E46 M3 was definately more eye pleasing. -- Btw, I have to admit that the new X body style as well as the 5 series body style does not appeal to me in the way the last generation body style grabbed my attention.
Something is different about these new styles and I just like the last gen better.

I don't doubt the new car is amazing, but so is the E46.

We also saw a 2003 blk/blk 6 spd, E46 M3 which my buddy really liked. It had 40,000 miles (no nav) and I'm sure I can beat the dealer up on the price. And it will come with a CPO..
-- Since there are no coupe's available, it might not be much of a choice..

I love the e46 body style too and have owned 2 of them. But if I was in the market again the 335 would be the choice for me. Unless I get a smoken deal on a e46 ///m. That being said, if I did go with a 335 i'd wait til 2008 so they hopeufully have more of the kinks worked out. I wouldnt want a 1st model year car.

my 2 cents.

you may want to check over at e90post.com and check out the many coupes with the aero kit; its very hot!! there are other kits available too and they are all pretty reasonably priced. many aftermarket parts/accessories are just coming out for the e92, only almost a year after introduction.

i just picked up a rear lip spoiler and will be getting the front aero lip soon. these maybe mods for the future b/c again $45k won't get a coupe anytime soon.

not sure if this car will be a daily driver or not, but if it is, i'd rather get the e92. i've read many mixed reviews about an M3 as a DD.

I agree - we have an E46 M3 vert and the harsh suspension makes it a boneshaker as a daily driver especially on the lunar landscape of the streets of Boston.
I prefer the E46 shape but my money would go to the 335 - same power, more comfort. You can also add a Procede chip for not much $ to get sizable gains if you need it.
