Additional confirmation that tii will have 340HP to my post # 21. This may be the new M1!
BMW’s Concept 1-series tii has been causing a bit of a stir of late, with word getting out it’s housing a more powerful version of the 335i’s 3.0L twin turbo. The rumor comes from a group of German journalists who have apparently driven the car. With the U.S. introduction of the 1-series just around the corner, it makes sense for BMW to test more powerful versions and expand the limited range of models coming to the world’s biggest car market. Currently, only the 125i and 135i are scheduled to go on sale in the States. Interestingly, the engine is said to be tweaked to produce 340hp, up from the original 306hp, suggesting it may be the basis for a possible hardcore version, according to the guys from AutoBild. A car as potent and light as this could easily blitz the competition, as its RWD setup will give it the precision and control not possible in most of its rivals due to their FWD or AWD powertrains. The concept also featured a fully aerodynamically tuned bodykit and plenty of carbon-fiber to keep weight down and strength up. The carbon-fiber roof, as seen on the concept, could also become a trademark of BMW’s high-performance coupes. One thing about BMW is that most of its concept vehicles usually end up in production either as is or with very few modifications, however with this one BMW will have to tread carefully as it could turn out to be a possible M3-killer. Production plans may not be concrete yet, although we certainly hope BMW goes ahead with it. |
